The Rise, Fall, and Impact of the Third Reich

This tour focuses on centers of historical importance during the rise, fall, and aftermath of the Third Reich in Germany.

Depart Atlanta for Berlin

June 5 – 9, 2024

The trip begins by spending four days in Berlin, the capital of the Reich. Two days are spent primarily in the central core of the city, and two days visiting sites. Highlights include the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Hitler’s Bunker, museums, as well as post-war realities of the Berlin Wall and impact of unification. Sites outside central Berlin include time at Sachsenhausen concentration camp, the site of the Wannsee Conference (where the final solution of the “Jewish problem” was determined), 1945 Potsdam Conference, 1936 Olympic Stadium, and Plötzensee Memorial site, where nearly 3,000 prisoners and enemies of the state were executed.

June 9 – 11, 2024

From Berlin, the trip continues via train to Nürnberg, Hitler’s City of the Nazi Party Rallies. The tour visits mammoth buildings and the grounds of the infamous Nazi Party rallies and the Kongresshalle. The tour also includes a visit to the site of the Nürnberg War Trials in 1946 as well as an exploration of the central city.

June 11 – 13, 2024

The tour then visits the site of Hitler’s Alpine retreat in Obersalzberg near Berchtesgaden. You’ll venture to the top of the Kehlstein to see the Eagle’s Nest, as well as see where the satellite government offices were located. The tour will also take in some of the beauty of the Berchtesgaden area by taking a boat cruise on the Königssee to see the majestic Watzmann mountain and the baroque chapel of St. Bartholomä.

June 13 – 15, 2024

The tour concludes in Munich, the birthplace oft he Nazi party and site of Hitler’s Beer Hall Putsch in1923.The trip visits several important buildings, including the Führerhaus (party headquarters), Haus der Kunst (House of Art), and the Feldherrenhalle at Odeonsplatz. The trip also visits the University of Munich and memorial to the White Rose resistance movement as well as the concentration camp in Dachau. The tour departs forAtlanta from Munich.

  • Ground transportation by rail from Berlin to Nürnberg, Nürnberg to Berchtesgaden, Berchtesgaden to Munich;
  • Public transportation in Berlin, Nürnberg, Berchtesgaden, and Munich;
  • Hotels, including breakfast;
  • Lunch at the Eagle’s Nest, dinners on the first and last night of the tour;
  • Entrance fees to museums, pre-trip webinars, and private tour guide throughout trip.
